IHOP's Discover America Summer Celebration Honors Unique Flavors of the United States

GLENDALE, CA, Jul 28, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- On July 7th, IHOP turned 50 and marked the special occasion with a summer-long celebration of the restaurant's roots in Americana, offering state-inspired pancake flavors. Since first opening its doors in Toluca Lake, Calif. in 1958, IHOP, one of America's favorite restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner, quickly became a national icon thanks to its famous buttermilk pancakes.

Three new pancakes that showcase flavors as unique as the states that have made them famous are now available at IHOP restaurants nationwide. The flavors, served now through September 7, include:

-- Louisiana Bananas Foster: Two fluffy buttermilk pancakes topped with
    a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh bananas in a rich brown sugar sauce;
-- Oregon Mixed Berry: Two fluffy lemon pancakes crowned with a mix of
    raspberries, Marionberries and strawberries, creamy whipped topping;
-- Washington Apple Crisp: Two fluffy buttermilk pancakes crowned with
    warm apple compote, crisp cinnamon streusel and creamy whipped topping.

"For 50 years, IHOP and its famous pancakes have been at the center of Americana," said Carolyn O'Keefe, IHOP's senior vice president, marketing. "We've celebrated all summer long with unique new pancake flavors available only at IHOP and our final trio of flavors continue to bring together the best of traditional American tastes with IHOP's signature pancakes."

The summer-long celebration kicked off June 2 with the first three of nine new Discover America pancakes. Maine Blueberry, California Strawberry and Kansas Carrot Cake pancakes were available June 2 through June 29. As Independence Day was celebrated throughout the land, so were three new flavors at the restaurant, Georgia Peach Praline Streusel, All-American Red, White and Blueberry and New York Cheesecake, which were featured June 30 through July 27. Today, the final trio of the nine new pancake flavors makes its debut at IHOP's across the country.

In conjunction with the Discover America celebration at the restaurants, baseball fans can catch the IHOP Discover America Recreational Vehicle (RV) at their favorite Minor League Baseball games as the IHOP Discover America Road Tour crosses the country bringing cheer, games and giveaways. A Most Valuable Pancake (MVP) mascot will entertain the crowd as the tour rounds the bases to wrap up its third and final leg. Between July 31 and September 1, the tour will travel through Oklahoma City, Okla., San Antonio and Austin, Tex., Albuquerque, N.M., Salt Lake City, Utah, Las Vegas, Nev., and Bakersfield, Rancho Cucamonga, Sacramento and San Jose, Calif.
