Applebee's Lumpkin Named a Top CFO

May 4, 2007

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2007--For the second year in a row, shareholders and analysts have named Steve Lumpkin, executive vice president, chief financial and strategy officer for Applebee's International, Inc. (Nasdaq:APPB), one of the best CFOs in the United States, according to Institutional Investor magazine.

The magazine surveyed nearly 800 analysts and portfolio managers at more than 400 money management firms responsible for investing $6.3 trillion in U.S. stocks, asking them to name the best CFOs in the industry sectors for which they are responsible.

Lumpkin ranked third of all restaurant companies' CFOs. McDonald's ranked first and Starbucks ranked second.

"The investment community clearly recognizes Steve's incredible talents," said Dave Goebel, chief executive officer. "It is because of those talents that Steve has a growing scope of accountabilities at Applebee's. He now serves as chief financial officer, chief strategy officer and oversees the company's supply chain and international operations. Steve has a unique ability to think strategically while focusing on the financial levers of the company, especially as we explore strategic alternatives to strengthen the business and improve shareholder value."

Applebee's has a well-earned reputation for excellence in investor relations. For the fourth consecutive year, IR Magazine has recognized the company for winning the Grand Prix for best overall investor relations team of any small-cap company in America and Carol DiRaimo, vice president of investor relations, as the best investor relations officer for any small- to mid-cap U.S. company. Last year, the company was voted the "Most Shareholder Friendly" restaurant company by Institutional Investor Magazine. The same magazine named CEO Lloyd Hill one of America's Best CEOs in 2005.
